Youth Shooting Program Begins April 9th

The Youth Shooting Program at Hurtig is going to kick off the 2017 season on Sunday April 9th.

New and existing shooters (and their parents) are invited to meet inside the Hurtig clubhouse at 1pm. This years plans include the formation of a competitive team that can participate in nearby youth shoots. There is also a plan to take interested youth to shoot sporting clays at the Jerome Gun Club.

There will be a parent meeting on Sunday prior to the shooting practice. We need parent participation to help with planning, transportation and supervision. Please plan to attend.

This year we hope to grow the program, and provide a safe and entertaining sport for the kids.

Additional information can be found in the Hurtig Youth Shooting section.

New for 2017 - International Defensive Pistol Matches

Hurtig Shooting Center is proud to announce that we are an Official Club of the International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA). The success (and demand) of our Practical Tactical Matches from members of HSC and the Community at large was a primary driver for making this happen. This is very exciting news and if your feedback is any indication, IDPA matches should prove to be a very popular event!

Hurtig will be hosting a series of IDPA clinics in April to help people prepare for the seasons first event. Refreshers will be held throughout the season based on demand. Please sign up to the email list to be notified.

IDPA Matches will be held on the first Saturday of each month - the first of which kicks off May 6th, 2017. For more information be sure to check out the Hurtig IDPA Series and our Calendar for the latest dates.

About IDPA -

IDPA, or International Defensive Pistol Association, is a practical pistol style of competition that utilizes standard off the shelf handguns and holsters and simulates "real world" self-defense scenarios. Timers, movement and creative stage design help to provide exciting and engaging experiences where participants can compete against one another in a safe and organized environment. IDPA is truly an international sport and there are currently more than 20,000 members in more than 50 different countries competing worldwide.

State of the Club

Greetings and Merry Christmas!

On behalf of myself, my fellow HSC Board members and staff, I am writing this to inform you about the progress made and overall wonderful year at the Club.

This year we were fortunate and hired long time Club member, Ed Terrazas, as our Club Manager. Ed has brought his considerable management skills, his talent as an architect, and his enthusiasm for all things related to shooting to do this job. This past summer, Ed, Chase Thomas, Lee Fieguth and Tom Powell and 12 others completed their Level One Shotgun Instructors certification. Ed has numerous other NRA instructor qualifications as well. Ask him!

With the support of our Board, a select group of generous members, and the fantastic support from our corporate sponsors, most notably Silver Creek Outfitters, Gemtech, Tactical Solutions, Primary Weapons Systems, Kryptek, Odin, ESS, MGM Targets, SPEAR Tactical and others, our summer raffle fund raiser was a great success. We raised more than $22,000, which gave us the leverage we needed to update all of the machines on the Sporting Clay range, wireless controls, and two new machines for the Skeet houses.

We have created, with a big push from Ed, four pistol pits at the east end of our property, where we can get double use from that end of the range. A donor has generously pledged to provide more steel reactive targets. Our wonderful neighbor, Joe’s Backhoe, did the grading work at a great discount to meet the donation of another generous Club member.

We have more improvements and developments planned for 2017, which will make Hurtig Shooting Center even more unique and special. Keep your eye on our website for progress and news.

We are approaching that time of year when our annual lease payment is due to the State, which is a bigger number each year. We would greatly appreciate a rapid response with your dues payments.

Anticipating that, I thank you all, and thank you for your support on an ongoing basis.

With kind regards,

Dennis Kavanagh
HSC Board President

We will be closed on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday's

On Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday we will be open from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm.

Sporting Clays will remain open this season as long as snow conditions allow access to the trap machines. If you wish to shoot sporting clays we would encourage you to call in advance. Sporting clays will close at 4:00 pm.

We hope to see you soon!!
